Daryl and Jason Masingale from Paragould, AR have been on fire this year and the steady 25 mph winds in Decatur, AL weren’t strong enough to put it out. They brought 148.2lbs to the scale, their two biggest were 63.85 and 65.65lbs. They earned $4,500.00 for first. They also recieved a $200.00 Monster Rod Holder Bonus fir winning the event and using Monster Rod Holders.
With the Alabama Trophy Fish law in play teams could only bring 2 fish over 34 inches to the scale. Daryl and Jason said they had to cull 6 over 34 inches, noting that three of those were 49, 54, and 62 lbs. Jason said he had to take a picture as they couldn’t believe they were releasing a 62lb fish during a tournament. He also praised the law as it will protect these trophy fish and help keep Wheeler Lake one of the premier trophy catfish lake in the country for many years to come.
With the win today, Daryl and Jason also earned the right to be crowned the 2011 Rippin Lips “Anglers of the Year”! They finished with 395 pts of a possible 400. More on this in another post.
