Outdoor Promotions Inc., operators of Crappie USA and Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trails also operate a non-profit 501-c(3) coorporation “Outdoor Kids Inc.,”. With each of our crappie and catfish tournaments that we are able to, we hold free kids fishing rodeos for youngster 12 and under. Theses kids fish for 2 hours in the morning and while the anglers fishing the tournament are out on the water. We count the number of fish caught, and give away rod and reel combos or other prizes donated by our National sponsors to the top performers of the day! “Its a lot of fun,” said King Kat Tournament Director, Tanner Tabor. “Its pretty special impacting and introducing so many kids to the great sport of fishing! For a lot of them, its their first time fishing, and everyone remembers how awesome it was catching your first fish. I was hooked from that moment on, and that what we hope happens to these kids who fish with us,” said Tabor. Thats not even the best part though.
Through the help of our National Sponsors and the Anglers who fish our tournament trails, plus all proceeds from our raffles and clothing/product sales goes toward the scholarship fund. Each kid who fishes is registered to win 1 of (6) $1,000.00 college scholarships drawn each year at the CUSA Classic. Since 1996, nearly $300,000.00 in college scholarships have been awarded to kids who participate in these rodeos. All because of the great sponsors and the anglers who support our trails. In years past we have been able to do more, but with the rising cost of tuition, anything helps! These kids and this scholarship fund are the driving force behind our trails! If we dont try and get these kids into fishing at an early age, they wont be buying fishing equipement or entering fishing tournaments when they get older. They are the future of our sport!
