This past Saturday May 5th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Ohio River at Gallipolis, Ohio. In the event over 70 of the top anglers from 7 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held on the Alabama River at Selma, AL September 27/28/29th.

“We would like to thank Gallia County CVB for sponsoring the event and special thanks to Bob Evans Farm Pond for hosting the kids fishing rodeo. Participation in the kids event was down due to rain, but multiple participants traveled over 2 hrs to fish the kids event”, said Tanner Tabor Tournament Director. Seven states were represented facing tough conditions as the river was stained due to flash flooding the last 2 days with 6 inches of rain hitting the area since Wednesday, making fish scattered and tough to pattern. We would also like to thank Kyle and Cory Maynard from Maynard Outdoors representing Ego Nets and 3 new sponsors added to the trail this week; Gamma Line, Mojo Sinkers, and Stubby Steve’s, Said Tabor. For more information on the area call: (800)765-6482 or visit their website at: www.visitgallia.com.

Press Release

Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results For Kerr Reservoir at Clarksville, Virginia

This past Saturday April 14th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of Kerr Reservoir at Clarksville, Virginia. In the event the top anglers from 6 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held on the Alabama River at Selma, Alabama September 27/28/29, 2012.
“We would like to thank the Clarksville EDA for sponsoring the event in conjunction with the first annual Lake Country Sportsman’s Show which had over 1,000 people in attendance. Many of these visitors were there to see what teams would bring to the scales at the Cabela’s King Kat event”, said tournament director Tanner Tabor. “Teams struggled today as the unusually warm temps over the last month, which had raised water temps in the low 70′s had dropped 10 degrees with the much cooler weather over the last week causing fish to scatter and difficult to pattern”, said Tabor. For more information on the area call: (434) 374-5033 or visit their website at: www.cedaevents.org.

Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail kicked off 2012 in the “Catfish Capital of Texas” at West Tawakoni. Mother Nature threw a curveball to the over 70 anglers from KS, OK, MO, TX, AR, and South Carolina. Temperatures dropped 20-30 degrees from early Thursday and several inches of rain fell on the area over the last 3 days. Making matters even tougher, winds shifted out of the East today from 5-10 mph. Teams had quitely reported some potentially massive stringers over 240lbs in the days prior to the event, but with the shift of the wind so did the bite for many teams.

Taking first place was Michael and Teri Littlejohn from Midlothian, TX with 106.6 lbs. They fished the North end of the lake anchoring in 22-25 ft of water using shad. They caught over 35 fish on the day and won $2,500.00 for first place.

Second place went to one of the hottest teams in the country over the last 3 years and the Cabela’s King Kat ”2o11 Anglers Of The Year” Daryl and Jason Masingale from Paragould, AR. They picked up right where they left off in 2011 with 97.75lbs and they had Big Fish of the tournament with a 67.45lb Monster Lake Tawakoni Blue Cat! This was their first trip to Lake Tawakoni and Jason Masingale said they had heard alot about how good the fishing was on Lake Tawakoni and wanted to see it first hand. They certainly found out justhow good the fishing can be when they stuck a 67.45lb blue the was the big fish of the tournament by over 20lbs! They werent sure what cove they were fishing, but they caught the big fish in 16ft of water. Their strategy was to locate schools of bait fish and hopefully it would lead them a big time bite. They found the bait fish and were marketing big fish underneath them, and just after 1pm they landed the Big Fish of the day using skipjack. They caught 12 fish on the day, and won $1,200.00 for 2nd place and for Big Fish they recieved a Fat Boy Custum Rod and $580.00 BF pot .
